With all the time I've spent swimming the lakes and rivers of Shasta county, including Hat Creek and the waters of Lassen National Park, I've learned about all the great fun facts about the area from the people and local wildlife that call it home.
Did you know...?
Shasta Dam in nearby Redding:
- Is higher than the Washington Monument and its spillway is three times the height of Niagara Falls.
- Contains enough concrete to build a sidewalk 3 feet wide, 4 inches thick around the world at the Equator.
- The hydroelectric power plant, located just below the dam, is one of the largest in California.
 Trout Trivia:
- A "lunker" is something large for it's kind. For instance, I'm a "lunker trout."
- Trout (like me) eat insects, crawdads, worms, minnows, salmon eggs...and even each other (though I've never been that hungry)!

It's a good idea to know some fun travel games to pass the time during your trip to Hat Creek Resort.
Here's one I like!
First Letter
The driver mentions a word, and the next person follows with a word that begins with the first letter of the word just mentioned. For example: "KITE" could be followed by "KING" then "KAYAK" and so on. Keep score on your fingers. The first one to 5 (or 10) gets to choose the next letter. Have a fun trip!
...Or, something a little harder...
Last Letter
The driver mentions a word, and the next person follows with a word that begins with the last letter of the word just mentioned. For example: "KITE" could be followed by "ELEPHANT" then "TOUCH" then "HORSE" and so on. This one's a lot tougher! Play this game against the clock. Challenge your team to say five words in one minute then see if you can go faster.
